AUTUMN
\ngold of amber
\nred of ember
\nbrown of umber

MCCOY CREEK
\nOver the bright shallows
\nnow no flights of swallows.
\nLeaves of the sheltering willow

OCTOBER
\nAt four in the morning the west wind

SOLSTICE

\nthe little owl spoke soft and clear

THE WINDS OF MAY
\nare soft and restless
\nin their leafy garments
\nthat rustle and sway
\nmaking every moment movement.<\/p>\n
HAIL
\nThe dogwood cowered under the thunder
\nand the lilacs burned like light itself
\nagainst the storm-black sky until the hail

Le Guin, Six Quatrains <\/em>is a song cycle which captures six unique scenes in autumn, winter and spring. My goal is to make each quatrain a short song that has its own particular character and essence. The ensemble consists of a piano trio, but is broken into smaller combinations throughout the cycle, culminating in the full compliment (piano, violin and cello) playing together only in Hinal song.
