Call for Scores-Art Songs on Texts by Living Poets

Art song provides a deeply personal vehicle for singers to communicate with their audiences. The trust, teamwork, and vulnerability required to perform art songs is unparalleled.  

Built on the foundation of North Star Music’s successful first publications, Modern Music for New Singers: 21st Century American Art Songs, thisnew endeavor will provide performers and teachers with exciting and culturally relevant literature that speaks to our current world climate.

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION AND SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Composers of all ages are eligible to submit their original songs.
2. Composers may submit no more than 4 songs in total.
3. There is no fee for submission.
4. DEADLINE: October 1, 2026

Eligible works must adhere to the following criteria:

• Original works by the composer for 1 singer and piano
• All texts must be written by a living poet
• Composed no earlier than 2010
• Preference will be giving to songs and/or poetry composed since 2020
• For previously published songs, upload a letter of express permission for use from the publisher
• All text submissions must include a letter of permission for use from the copyright holder
